Tomorrow, Friday, February 24th the students will be dismissed at 11:30 A.M. due to a faculty in-service.  Bus service and JagCare will both be available.  Students who are attending JagCare will need to bring a sack lunch and a drink; the cost for JagCare is $5 per day per student.

We are also still looking for volunteers for two events tomorrow, Friday, February 24th.  Parents and students are needed to help set up for the Speech Meet  at 11:30 A.M. Volunteers are also needed to help pick up and deliver furniture for the school; movers need to meet at Belle Valley North in Belleville at 4:00 P.M.  We already have three trailers available for hauling the desks, cabinets, and bookshelves back to St. John’s.

Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade families are encouraged to RSVP to the school by tomorrow for the Focus Group potluck lunch and meeting being held on Sunday, February 26th from 11:30-1:30.  After families enjoy a lunch together in the Munier Center, parents will meet with school board members who will facilitate a dialogue on what you love about St. John’s and where there might be room for improvement.  During that time, students will meet for activities with their Mass buddies under the supervision of Mrs. McKay.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share; sandwiches and drinks will be provided.  Raffle prizes will also be awarded in appreciation of your participation.

Please contact Mrs. McKay at 233-0581 if you have any questions.  Thank you for working as a team with our staff in order to provide Catholic education.  Enjoy your night!

Today, Saturday, January 28 our 8th grade girls volleyball team will play in the championship round of the tournament we are hosting in the Munier Center.  All St. John’s students will be admitted for free, so please come cheer on the Jaguars at 2:00.

The Paul Schaefer Scholarship from the Catholic Holy Family Society will be awarded at the 10:00A.M. Mass tomorrow January 29, and we will be celebrating the beginning of Catholic Schools Week.  This $500 scholarship will be applied to the 2012-2013 school year.  If you did not return your form yesterday through the blue envelope, it is not too late to enter.  Extra forms will be available as you enter church for the 10:00 Mass or you may call Mrs. McKay at 402-1369, and she will personally complete the form for you.  Come join the fun at today’s tournament and at tomorrow’s Mass, Pancake Breakfast, Book Fair, and Open House.  Enjoy your weekend!

We are very excited to welcome Bishop Braxton to our school tomorrow, Thursday, January 12.  Thank you to the students and teachers who have been working hard to prepare for this special visit.  I’d also like to invite you to attend our second quarter Honors Ceremony which will be held after the 8:15 A.M. Mass on Friday, January 13th.  Students will be recognized for perfect attendance and honor roll; an eighth grader will also receive an award from the Optimist Club.  You are welcome to attend our annual geography bee, too.  Representatives from the 4th-8th grade classes will be participating in the bee, which will begin in the Munier Center immediately following the awards.

Students and teachers return tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4th for a full day of school with dismissal at 3:00 P.M.  Bus service is available.  Remember that it is the Auction Buyers Out of Uniform Day, and the theme is to wear something new that you received over Christmas break.

You are also invited to participate in tomorrow’s Parents, Teachers, and Friends meeting at 6:30P.M. in the school.  Alumni and upper grade students will provide free babysitting.

On Thursday, January 5th students may also dress out of uniform, and they will be dismissed at 1:45 P.M. so the teachers can have their monthly faculty meeting.  Bus service will not be available that afternoon, but JagCare will be available.

The Drama Club rehearsal for tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 17th has been cancelled.  I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the PTF Quarter Auction that is being held this coming Saturday.  If you cannot attend the event but would still like to participate in the drawing for over 70 items, you can purchase an All-in-Paddle in advance.  The PTF will have volunteers at the auction who will track the paddles for those who cannot attend.  If you are interested, please send $25 in a clearly marked envelope to school by Friday, November 18.  Thank you again for being a part of St. John the Baptist Catholic School.
